Important Safety Warning

⚠️

**READ ME FIRST: Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility** This document contains important safety instructions and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) information. Read this before installing and using the hardware including device, wall-mounted plugs, and other accessories.

General Safety Instructions

The following safety information must be followed when installing and using the hardware. Do not operate the hardware in a manner not specified in this document. Misuse of the hardware can result in a hazard.

Hardware Damage

You can compromise the safety if the hardware is damaged in any way. If the hardware is damaged, return it to the manufacturer for repair.

Cleaning

Clean the hardware with a soft, non-metallic brush. Make sure the hardware is:

  • Completely dry
  • Free from contaminants
  • Before returning it to service

Hardware Modification

⚠️

**DO NOT:** - Open, remove, or modify the hardware - Use hardware with unapproved chassis, accessories, or cables - Operate without all covers and panels installed

You must have all covers and panels installed during operation of the hardware.

Safety Symbols

Symbol Meaning Action
⚠️ Refer to documentation See hardware documentation for precautions
Electrical shock hazard Take precautions to avoid electrical shock
🔥 Hot component May cause bodily injury if touched

Explosive Atmosphere Warning

⚠️

**DO NOT operate the hardware in:** - Explosive atmospheres - Areas with flammable gases or fumes This can result in fire or explosion.

Electrical Safety

⚠️

**Important Safety Rules:** - **Insulate signal connections** for maximum rated voltage - **Do not exceed maximum ratings** for the hardware - **Do not install wiring** while hardware is live with electrical signals - **Do not remove or add connector blocks** when power is connected to the system - **Remove power from signal lines** before connecting/disconnecting from hardware

Pollution Degree

Operate the hardware only at or below Pollution Degree 2.

Pollution is foreign matter (solid, liquid, or gaseous state) that can reduce dielectric strength or surface resistivity.

Pollution Degree Levels

Degree Description Example
Degree 1 No pollution or only dry, nonconductive pollution. Typical for sealed components. Office environment
Degree 2 Only nonconductive pollution in most cases; occasionally temporary conductivity from condensation. Typical for most products. Standard venue
Degree 3 Conductive pollution occurs, or dry pollution becomes conductive from condensation Industrial environment

Measurement Category

Operate the hardware at or below Measurement Category II.

Measurement circuits are subjected to working voltages and transient stresses during measurement or test.

Category Descriptions

Category Use Example
CAT I/O Circuits not directly connected to MAINS voltage Signal-level equipment
CAT II Circuits directly connected to MAINS; local-level distribution Household appliances, DVOX unit
CAT III Building installation at distribution level Circuit breakers, distribution boards
CAT IV Primary electrical supply installation Electricity meters, main panel
